Coal-fired power plant (PLTU) Bangka Baru with a generation capacity of 1 x 25 megawatt (MW) in Bangka regency of Bangka-Belitung province will start operation next month.

The power plant has been developed by PT Truba Alam Manunggal Engineering since 2008, and now its construction is being finalized.

The developer will sell its power to state utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) under a power purchase agreement (PPA) that is scheduled for 25 years since its operation. The power development is aimed to overcome power shortage in the regency.

?The coal for the power plant will be mainly supplied by PLN BB (Batubara) and Oktasan, as they have low-calorie coal needed by the power plant,? PLN Coal Division Head Helmi Najamuddin told Petromindo.com in Jakarta on Friday, adding that the PLTU needs coal supply at 78,000 tons coal per year.
