The steam power plant (PLTU) Banten with a generation capacity of 660 megawatt (MW) in Serang regency of Banten province will need coal supply of 2.6 million tons per year when it starts commercial operation in 2017.
?There is no certain supplier yet. It?s still in a process of tendering,? Helmi Najamuddin, Head of Coal Division at the state utility PT PLN, told Petromindo.com in Jakarta on Monday.
The PLTU project is developed by PT Lestari Banten Energi (LBE), a subsidiary of a Malaysian company Genting Energy. Last year, the company signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with PLN, the off-taker of the electricity to be produced by the PLTU.
