A coal-fired power plant (PLTU) with capacity of 660 MW in Banten Province is expected to reach commercial operation date (COD) status in May once the ongoing commissioning stage is completed.
This was said by state-owned electricity firm PT PLN Business Director for western part of Java region, Murtaqi Syamsuddin to Petromindo.com on Thursday. ?It is currently at commissioning stage, if everything goes well, the COD status will be reached next month,? he said.
Developed by independent power producer PT Lestari Banten Energi, the project was completed in January. Lestari signed the power purchase agreement with PLN in July of 2012, under which the utility will purchase 600 MW of the plant?s capacity, while the remainder will be allocated for Lestari?s own use.
The power plant is developed under a scheme of build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT), which after 25 years will be owned by PLN. The PLTU Banten utilizes the supercritical technology with total investment of US$1 billion.
