PLTU Cirebon obtains national vital object status

The PLTU Cirebon coal-fired power plant in Cirebon, West Java, has recently obtained so-called national vital object status, ensuring maximum security from the state for the power plant, Kontan.co.i.id reported on Friday.
The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources had on September 20 issued Ministerial Decree No. 7102/K/93/MEM/2016 declaring the status for the power plant.
Heru Dewanto, Deputy Director of PT Cirebon Electric Power, which owns the power plant, said that the PLTU Cirebon second phase expansion with capacity of 1,000 MW was the first project to sign power purchase agreement with state utility firm PT PLN under the government?s 35,000 power plant development program.
The PLTU Cirebon currently runs at a capacity of 1x660 MW, supplying electricity to the Java-Bali-Madura grid.
The national vital object status is valid for five years. (*)
