The coal-fired power plant (PLTU), Cirebon Electric Power (CEP), currently being built by a consortium led by the Indika Energy Group, is expected to begin commercial operation in the middle of this year.
The company?s President Director Arsjad Rasjid said in Jakarta on Thursday that the construction of the power plant with a capacity of 660 megawatt (MW) had been 98 percent completed at the end of 2011.
He said the consortium had conducted a number of activities for the preparation of the power plant?s operation, including minimum load test, bearing inspection and combustion tuning.
?At present, PLTU CEP is under preparation for operation. The plant will begin commercial operation in the middle of this year,? he said, adding that the power from PLTU CEP would be sold to state owned electricity company PLN which had signed a 30-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the consortium.
According to Arsjad, coal for the power plant will be supplied by Kideco for about 2 million tons per year.
CEP is owned by a consortium of Indika Energy, Marubeni Corporation and Samtan Co.Ltd. Through its two subsidiaries PT Indika Infrastruktur Investindo and Indika Power Investments Pte.Ltd, Indika Energi has a 20 percent stake in the consortium.
The CEP power plant is the first coal-fired power plant in Indonesia to use the technology of super-critical boiler, which is considered as efficient in consuming fuel and can also be fed with coal of low rank calorie.
