PLTU Jeneponto, a coal-fired power plant built by independent power producer (IPP) PT Bosowa Energy has started commercial operation. The power plant was formally connected with the power grid of state electricity company PT PLN on May 2, 2012.
The power plant with a capacity of 2 x 125 megawatt (MW) is located in Punagaya district in Bangkala district, Jeneponto regency, about 70 kilometers to the south of Makassar, South Sulawesi province capital.
The Rp 2.3 trillion power plant which occupies a 100-hectare plot of land is expected to minimize power shortage in the province.
CEO of Bosowa Group, Erwin Aksa, said the operation of the Jeneponto power plant would help PLN to save up to Rp 4 trillion per annum.
The construction of the power plant started in November 2010. It takes about 19 months to complete the construction, earlier than initial schedule of 30 months.
