PLTU Ketapang soon to start operation

State owned electricity firm PT Perusahan Listrik Negara (PLN) said PLTU Ketapang coal fired power plant (2x10 MW) in Ketapang regency, West Kalimantan province has been synchronized with the Ketapang power system and is scheduled to carry out Reliability Run this month.

One unit of the power plant is expected to start commercial operation end of this month, while the other power unit in August 2016.

Once the power plant has come into full operation, PLN will discontinue the operation of PLTD Sukaharja which at present supplies power to Ketapang and Kayong Utara regencies of the province. It will allow PLN to save fuel costs by 92 billion a year, PLN?s spokesperson Agung Murdifi said in a statement on Monday.

Peak load in Ketapang stands at 31 MW.

Aside from PLTU Ketapang, PLN will also complete the development of PLTU Sintang (3x7MW), PLTG/MG MPP Kalbar (100MW), PLTU Parit Baru FTP1 (2x50MW), and PLTU Pantai Kurakura (2x27,5 MW).
