PLTU Lontar to start commercial production this month

The first unit of PLTU Lontar coal-fired power plant in Lontar village, Kemiri subdistrict, Tangerang will start commercial operation this month, state electricity company PLN said.

PLTU Lontar is one of several large power plants built under the 10,000 MW-fast track power plant development program. The plant has three units each with a capacity of 315 MW. The second unit will begin commercial operation in January and the third one will start operation in February, next year.

A high-voltage grid which will be used to supply the electricity from the new power plant to the existing power distribution center in Tangerang, Banten is currently under construction.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to inaugurate PLTU Lontar and other two power plants, the new PLTU Suralaya with a capacity of 1 x 625 MW and PLTU Tanjung Jati B with a capacity of 3 x 660MW on December 28. At the same event, the President will also witness the groundbreaking of Pertamina?s project in Cilacap. (bernard/edi)
