PLTU Pelabuhan Ratu, one of power plants currently being built in Sukabumi, West Java as part of the first 10,000 MW power plant development program, needs 3.3 million of coal a year.

Helmi Najamuddin, head of PLN?s division for coal, said that the coal would be supplied by PT Bukit Asam (PTBA) and Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC). ?We have signed long term contracts until 2014,? he added.

The power plant with a capacity of 350 megawatt, which is being built by Shanghai Electric Group Corp Ltd and PT Maxima Infrastruktur, is expected to begin operation before the end of this year. The power plant will add the power supply to the Java-Bali power grid.
