PLTU Riau to come onstream this year

State owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said the 2x110 MW PLTU Riau coal fired power plant is scheduled to start operation this year.

The Commercial Operation Date (COD) of Unit 1 of the power plant is scheduled for September 2014, which will be followed by the COD of Unit 2 in December 2014.

?At present of the progress of construction works reach 72.4 percent,? PLN said in a statement over the weekend.

The operation of the power plant will help strengthen the power system in central Sumatra, particularly Riau. At present, peak load in Riau reaches 474 MW, while the installed capacity in Riau stands at 400 MW. The system now receives supports amounting to 80 MW from the Sumatra system.

The power plant located in Tenayan Raya district is part of the Phase I 10,000 MW acceleration program.

Power consumption in Riau and Riau Archipelago now grows at an annual rate of 14 percent.
