State utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has targeted that the steam power plant (PLTU) mulut tambang Sumsel-9 (mine-mouth power plant) in South Sumatera will start its commercial operation in 2018.

Currently, the project is under a process of tender to select companies that will develop the power infrastructure.

?Beside building the power plant, the project developer?a company or a consortium, will also act as the supplier of coal to the PLTU,? a reliable source with PLN told Petromindo.com in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The PLTU, with a total generation capacity of 2 x 600 megawatt (MW), will channel its generated electricity to the power grid of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Java-Sumatra.
