PLTU Teluk Balikpapan?s first fire scheduled for April

Public utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) targets the first unit of its 2x110 MW PLTU Teluk Balikpapan coal fired power plant in Kariangau village, Balikpapan Utara, East Kalimantan to undergo ?first fire? in April this year.
That means the turbine of the Unit 1 of the power plant will be put into operation for the first time in the month.
The firm said in a statement on Monday at present the development of the project has reached 83 percent of completion.
The power plant will replace the diesel engines now used by the firm to generate power in the region.
PLTU Teluk Balikpapan is part of the First Phase 10,000 MW Fast Track Program. The power plant will be connected to the Mahakam system which now has a load capacity of 364.44 MW and peak load of 340.11 MW. The Mahakam system serves four cities in East Kalimantan, namely Balikpapan, Samarinda, Tenggarong and Bontang.
