East Kalimantan coal miner Pipit Mutiara Jaya (PMJ) plans to boost coal output from its mine in Bulungan regency next year.

PMJ is expected to produce around 2 million of coal next year, up from the 2008 target of 1.6 million tons and from 2007 output of 1.1 million tons, the company told Petromindo.Com last week.

Most of the coal output is delivered to export markets such as Korea, India, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, Japan and China, it said.

PMJ has a concession of 3,000 hectares in East Kalimantan. It started exploration at its mine in Sesayap Hilir district, Bulungan regency in January 2004 and started commercial production in July 2006 with an annual output of 420,000 tons.

The mine is operated by two local contractors PT Nipindo Prima Mesin and PT Pipit Nusa Raya.

The company did not mention coal reserve but calorific value from its mine range between 5,300-6,000 kcal/kg. (denny)
