Philippines state energy firm PNOC-Energy Development Corp. (PNOC-EDC) is talking with state electricity firm PLN for a possible geothermal development venture in Indonesia, a company official said as quoted by Philstar.com

Former energy undersecretary Guillermo Balce, who now serves as an advisor for PNOC-EDC, said they would send a team to Indonesia next month to try to seal an agreement with PLN.

According to Balce, PNOC-EDC was initially offering one project to PLN but the Indonesian firm asked the geothermal company to take a look at two other geothermal sites.

These projects, he said, are located in Manado, Sumatra and Java.

Balce noted that PNOC-EDC is hoping to tap a portion of the targeted geothermal development in Indonesia which would reach 2,000 megawatt (MW) by 2009.(*)
