Poland firm to build smelter and power plant in Maluku

Mining Indonesia Pte Ltd of Poland plans to build a nickel smelting plant and a coal-fired power plant with capacity of 150 megawatt in a special economic zone in Western Seram (SBB), Maluku.

Maluku governor Karel Ralahallu and Western Seram regent Bob Puttiliehalat said as quoted by beritasatu.com that the Polish company would build its smelter and power plant in the mineral based special economic zone which would be built in the regency next year.

Bob said that Nickel Mining Indonesia would invest up to US$10 billion for the construction of the smelter and the power plant which would have capacity of 150 megawatt.

He said that the special economic zone would be opened in two locations ? between Doker and Kairatu covering an area of 5,000 hectares and in Bukit Tinggi. To support the economic zones, the government will build two ports in Waisamu and Doker.

In addition to the Polish company, Chinese company Pan China International has also expressed its interest to build a factory in the special economic zone, Bob added.(*)
