The National Police and the Attorney General?s Office (AGO) pledged to provide security and legal assistance to state-owned electricity company PT PLN in the development of the planned 35,000 MW power plant projects.
Coordinating Minister for Security, Legal and Political Affairs Luhut B. Panjaitan said the support given by the two law enforcement institutions was expected to provide peace of mine to PLN officials in making decision to realize the crucial power plant projects, so that they will not be criminalized in the future as long as the decisions taken do not violate the law.
Luhut, National Police Chief Badrodin Haiti, and Attorney General HM Prasetyo, met Thursday with PLN President Director Sofyan Basir. He said that the police will assign its personnel to help secure PLN projects, while the Attorney General?s Office will assist PLN in carrying out the tough land acquisition process.
Sofyan welcomes the support given to his company. The current aggressive campaign against corruption including the recent criminalization of former PLN president Dahlan Iskan for alleged corruption has traumatized PLN officials, said Sofyan.
The current government plans to develop a total of 35,000 MW power plants in five years, of which about 5,000 MW to be developed by PLN, with the bulk 30,000 MW by independent power producers.
