The East Kalimantan Police has deployed some 50 personnel since Wednesday to help secure the mining complex of coal mining giant coal mining company PT Kaltim Prima Coal in the Sangatta area, the local Kaltim Post daily said.
The move was made to anticipate possible unrest following the recent decision by the company to dismiss some 39 security staffs.
The paper said that the dismissal was made after the company hired a U.S-based security firm called G4.
The paper also said that East Kutai Regent Awang Faroek and other senior officials of the administration had met with KPC officials to help seek ways to avoid unrest.
KPC is equally owned by BP and Rio Tinto mining group.(*)
