The Tarakan Police in East Kalimantan province has recently seized some 50 drums of fuel products (1 drum equal to 200 liter) including diesel fuel and premium gasoline believed to be smuggled out of the area, the local Kaltim Post daily reported.
The paper said that the police had handed over the seized fuel products to the Tarakan administration.
The paper said that the Tarakan police declined to provide further details.
There has been increasing worry of massive fuel smuggling out of the Tarakan area and other parts in East Kalimantan in the run up to the planned fuel price increase.
Fuel prices have been heavily-subsidized by the government. This has tempted people to smuggle the fuel products.
The government is planning to reduce the subsidy in October. (*)
