Riau police will soon form a special security body to protect assets of oil producer PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI) in the province, Suara Karya daily reported Monday.

Riau police deputy chief Fachruddin Bakar said over the weekend the body would comprise representatives of the local police, army and other security organizations. A police officer would head the new organization, Fachruddin told the paper.

CPI had over the past months complained about the stealing by locals of its assets, which had cost it around Rp12 billion (US$=Rp8,870) monthly, Suara Karya said.

CPI, Indonesia?s largest onshore oil and gas producer, contributes 60 percent of Indonesia?s total revenues from the oil and gas sector.

The company is a unit of world energy giant ChevronTexaco. (*)
