Police to question PLN chief in Borang power plant case

National Police?s criminal investigation department will question the president director of the state electricity firm Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), Eddie Widiono, in connection with the alleged corruption case at the Borang gas-fired power plant project in Banyuasin, South Sumatra, the Koran Tempo reported in its Wednesday edition.

But Eddie will be questioned as a witness in the case.

A source at the police said the questioning of Eddie will be done on Wednesday. PLN ?s director of power generation and primary energy Ali Herman Ibrahim was arrested on Monday night. If the police found strong evidence, there is a possibility of converting Eddie?s status from into a suspect.

Eddie refused to comment on the case when the reporters asked for his response on Tuesday.

But the lawyer of PLN Maqdir Ismail confirmed the news of questioning of Eddie by the police.

?Yes, there is a plan for the questioning (of Eddie) tomorrow (Wednesday),? Maqdir told the Koran Tempo in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Police also have arrested PT Cipta Guna Mandiri owner Johannes Aritonang for his role in the project. Johannes? company supplied the generators for the project.

The Supreme Audit Agency found out that the prices of the generators were marked up by more than Rp 122 billion (US$13.64 million). (*)
