Police urged to investigate Kitadin's mine collapse

Regent of East Kalimantan's Kutai Kartanegara regency Syaukani HR has urged the local police to investigate the cause of the collapse of PT Kitadin Banpu's underground coal mines which killed three workers on Sunday, Kompas reported on Thursday.

"The cause of the collapse should be investigated so that we will know who will be responsible," he said during a meeting in Samarinda on Tuesday. He added that a special team had been formed to help the investigation.

A tunnel in one of coal mining company PT Kitadin Banpu's underground coal mines in Tenggarong Seberang district, Kutai Kartanegara regency, East Kalimantan's collapsed on Sunday, killing three of five workers in the location.

The company said that that the accident occurred when pillars which supported the roof of the tunnel in one of its underground mines collapsed. Five workers were trapped in the tunnel, but two of them survived but with serious injury. (*)
