Dozens of policemen have been deployed at the mining site of PT Thiess Contractors Indonesia (TCI) in the Batu Sopang area of Pasir Regency, East Kalimantan, as situation in the area is now tense following the dismissal of 171 workers.
The local Kaltim Post daily reported Thursday that the workers were deeply disappointed by the decision of the labor dispute settlement committee (P4), which approved late last month the dismissal of the workers.
The paper said that the workers were ready to take ?action? to protest the decision.
TCI is the contractor of coal mining firm PT Kideco Jaya Agung.
TCI dismissed the workers in November last year after they held a strike for days, which affect coal production. The strike was made to demand the company pay a higher compensation for extra work hours.(*)
