IDX-listed polyester producer PT Polychem Indonesia Tbk plans to build a 30 MW power plant in Karawang, West Java, Kontan reported on Monday.

The paper quoted company director Jusuf Agus Sayono as saying that construction of the US$25 million power plant is expected to start in the first semester of 2015, and to be completed within two years. The paper did not say the type of fuel to be used by the planned power plant.

Electricity from the plant would be primarily used to support the company?s operation in a bid to help reduce power cost, which accounts for about 10 percent of total production cost, Jusuf said.

The excess power will be supplied to other industries around the area, he added. (*)
