State-run port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II, also known as Indonesia Port Corporation II, said it has started implementing digital system in Pontianak port in West Kalimantan as a move to improve the efficiency of the port operation and service.

“In line with the corporate roadmap to make the company as a world class port in 2020, we at IPC Pontianak branch is implementing digital system to support effective and efficient services,” General Manager of IPC Pontianak branch Adi Sugiri was quoted by Antara news agency on Monday (24/06).

Sugiri said the digital system does not only cover the port service, but also the whole operational process, both internal, onshore and offshore.

So far, IPC Pontianak branch has applied the so-called NPK-S system that helps the company to make plans and control operations on the ground, including managing the flow of containers.

The system has been applied since February this year and enables the port to move 43 boxes of container per hour from 36 containers per hour previously.

The system also reduce the waiting time for containers at the port area from 17 days to 8 days.

At present, IPC operates terminal operating system (TOS) and non-container terminal operating system (NPKTOS) as well as auto tally to calculate the containers. It also provides container freight station (CFS), buffer area, auto gate, car terminal operating system, reception facility as well as truck identification to identify drivers and the destination of goods.
