Poso Energy to build 615 MW hdyro power plants

Domestic power company PT Poso Energy plans to build three new hydro power plants in Poso, Central Sulawesi, with combined capacity of 615 MW by 2022, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Thursday.

The paper quoted Poso Energy President Director Ahmad Kalla as saying that total investment requirement for the three power plant projects is estimated at US$1.5 billion.

He said that the company has obtained loan from Bank Rakyat Indonesia to help finance the construction of the Poso 1 hydro power plant project with capacity of 3x30 MW.

Poso Energy Director Alimuddin Sewang said that construction progress of the Poso 1 project has reached 28 percent, and is projected to start commercial production in December of 2017.

The Poso 1 project is located near the 3x65 MW PLTA Poso 2 hdyro power plant, which has been in production, distributing electricity to Central and Sulawesi via transmission lines built by the company and state-owned electricity firm PT PLN.

Alimuddin said that the company plans to start construction of the Poso 3 hydro power plant project in 2018 in the hope that it could start production in 2022. (*)
