Potential production loss reaches 42,000 bopd

Upstream authority BPMIGAS recorded the potential loss of oil production during January-August period reached 42,000 bopd.

The potential loss came from lower-than-expected production in a number of fields due to various issue. Unplanned shutdown contributed around 10,000 to 12,000 bopd to the total potential loss, according to Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.

But the biggest contribution came from some contractors who were slow to anticipate some on-site challenges, coupled with local issues related to permits and land clearance.

Rudi pointed out as examples potential loss of up 5,000 bopd because Mobil Cepu Ltd was late in building additional early production facilities, 4,000 bopd because CNOOC was late to place replacement machines in its Lentera Bangsa disrupted by fire and 7,000 bopd because PHE WMO was late in installing a rig in Madura.
