Power cuts scheduled for parts of Jakarta

?We have to schedule a power cut because there will be a shortage of supply of about 400 megawatts tomorrow due to late fuel delivery to the Muara Tawar plant,? state power operator PLN?s general manager of the Java-Bali grid center for power distribution, Muljo Adji said.
?The plant has run out of fuel and has yet to receive new delivery from Pertamina and its transporter until Monday night," he said.
Adji explained the power cuts would be done in two phases.
?Power supply to different areas in greater Jakarta will be cut from 8 a.m to 12 a.m and to other areas from 12 p.m to 4 p.m.,? he added.
?We strongly urge that on Monday consumers use electricity efficiently to avoid more areas being affected,? he said, adding the scale of the affected areas would depend on the level of power consumption Monday.
PLN has urged heavy industries to temporarily cut their power consumption and suggested a similar approach by office building managements in Jakarta.
Last June, PLN called on customers in Java and Bali to turn off two lights per house as the gasoline supply to several plants was cut for two weeks. It announced a possible power shortage on June 20, as a 750-MW plant had to stop generating power due to late delivery of petroleum fuel.
Last August a massive blackout hit Java and Bali when supply to the areas was disrupted due to a failure in a 500 kilovolt transmission line between Cilegon and Saguling. (godang)
