Power load in the Java-Bali network system dropped by up to 700 megawatt due to flood which has hit certain areas in the Greater Jakarta and East Java, according to an official of the state-owned power company PLN.

PLN general manager for power supply Basuki Prayitno was quoted by Neraca daily as saying Thursday that the power capacity declined because PLN had to cut off electricity supply to areas hit by the flood to avoid electrical accident.

But he said that the Java-Bali power network system had not been disrupted by the flood and its capacity remained at around 18,300 MW.

Torrential rains particularly in the during the past six days had caused flood in the Greater Jakarta, the worst in five years. Experts said that the heavy rain would continue throughout the remaining period of the month.(*)
