Power projects to be offered without tender

The government plans to ease investment requirements for power plant development in the country including eliminating the tender process particularly for private investors which already have power plants, Koran Tempo reported Saturday.

The paper quoted Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said as saying that through direct appointment, negotiation process with state-owned electricity company PT PLN will be shortened, thus helping to speed up the development of power plant project by private investors.

?Those who already have power plants only need to submit proposal,? said Sudirman.

He said that the new breakthrough is needed to help accelerate power plant development in the country particularly as the government aims to build a total of 35,000 MW power plants over the next five years, under which private investors or independent power products are expected to build around 25,000 MW, while the remainder 10,000 MW to be developed by PLN.
