The power supply from the country?s hydropower plants is expected to decline by up to 80 percent during the peak of the dry season between September and October, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Tuesday.

Ali Herman Ibrahim, the director for power generation at state owned electricity company PLN, said that the power supply from certain hydropower plants had declined to 40 percent due to the significant drop in the water supply.

He said a number of hydropower plants operate in Java and Bali at present, supplying about 2,500 MW.

According to him, PLN would try to develop artificial rain in a bid to increase the water supply for these power plants if rains do not come within the next few weeks. (*)
