Power supply improving in Aceh: PLN

The management of the state-owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) announced that power supply has been improving in tsunami-hit Aceh province, the Bisnis Indonesia newspaper reported in its Tuesday edition.

PLN’s company secretary Muljo Adji said the improvement can be seen in various areas in Aceh, which were severely hit by the disaster.

For example, some 55 percent of the power supply in Banda Aceh had been restored; Lhokseumawe 90 percent; while power supply in Subulussalam, Bireun and Langsa areas had been fully restored.

“In Meulaboh, where the company suffered the worst, the power situation had only been restored 15 percent of the normal situation. But in Sabang, we don’t know exactly because there is no communication with that area yet," Muljo said in a press release.

PLN’s director of distribution and transmission Herman Darnel Ibrahim said his company may need 2-3 months time to rebuild power infrastructure in Aceh province.(*)
