Power supply in Java-Bali grid returns to normal

With the functioning of three gas and coal-fired power plants at Muara Tawar on Wednesday, the power supply in the Java-Bali transmission line, especially in Jakarta, Tangerang, Banten and West Java areas, has returned to normal.

"Hopefully, this kind of thing will not happen again after the improvement in coordination and communication among various institutions like power plant operators, suppliers and fuel transporters," state electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) spokesman Muljo Adji said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

PLN's acting president director Djuanda Nugraha Ibrahim said that one of the main factors for the empty fuel stocks was due to a rise in consumption.

According to the PLN's 2006 Budget and Work Plan, the company has set diesel consumption quota at 4.6 million kiloliters but in reality it jumped to 4.9 million kiloliters.

Muara Tawar power plant has six units, with a capacity of 140 megawatt each. Recently, PLN was forced to close down three units due to lack of fuel supply. (Godang)
