Power supply on Java, Bali islands returns to normal: PLN

Wednesday, June 8 2005 - 02:31 AM WIB

State-owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has guaranteed that there will not be any power blackouts on Java and Bali islands, the Bisnis Indonesia newspaper reported in its Wednesday edition.

PLN president director Eddie Widiono said the guarantee was assured after the gas supplies to gas-fired Tanjung Priok and Muara Karang power plants returned to normalcy.

Until Tuesday, according to Eddie, gas supplies to both power plants had reached 50 percent of the normal situation and on Wednesday the situation will return to normal.

“In fact, the schedule for the normalcy was on 6 (June 6, 2005) but there was a slight change in gas supplies. That’s why it’s postponed until today (Wednesday). Insya Allah (God’s willing), there will not be any more blackouts,” Eddie said on Tuesday in Jakarta.

When asked about why there were no blackouts during the repairs to the gas pipeline, Eddie said it happened because of the cooperation from our customers.

According to Eddie, the public in fact followed the advice of the PLN by reducing the usage of electricity during peak ours. That’s why there were no blackouts.

“This is a good example of cooperation (from public),” Eddie said.(*)
