President Prabowo Subianto has appointed Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat as Minister of Environment and head of the Environmental Control Agency, replacing Hanif Faisol, who has been reassigned as Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs.

The appointments were made during a cabinet reshuffle at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, based on Presidential Decree No. 51/P of 2026.

Speaking after his inauguration, Jumhur said the government would prioritise waste management and align environmental policies with global standards and international agreements.

“There are many issues that must be addressed immediately, including waste management, while gradually following global standards,” he told reporters.

Jumhur called for greater public participation in environmental awareness, saying behavioural change would be key to improving long-term outcomes.

Jumhur, a labour activist, currently serves as chairman of the Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPSI). He previously led the Indonesian Overseas Workers Placement and Protection Agency from 2007 to 2014.
