BP Indonesia is still processing the prequlification of the tender for the procurement of liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers that will handle the shipment of LNG from the Tangguh LNG plant in Papua to several overseas buyers, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Friday.

"The prequalification is under processing and we hope it could be completed in October or November. Only after that process we will know which bidders are qualified to take part in the tender," BP's Senior Vice President for LNG, Lukman Mahfudz, said in Jakarta on Thursday.

BP through its subsidiary BP Shipping recently launched a tender for the procurement of five LNG tankers that will be used to transport LNG to its Korea and Mexico. The shipment is expected to begin in 2008 under a 20-year contract.

A number of local and overseas companies have expressed interest in joining the tender, which is worth about US$850 million. Among of the bidders is local company Humpuss Intermoda. (*)
