President issues regulation on RUEN

President Joko Widodo on March 2 issued Presidential Regulation No 22/2017 on the General Planning for National Energy, or also known under its Bahasa acronym of RUEN.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said in a statement issued late Monday that the RUEN, drafted by the central government and approved by the National Energy Council (or DEN), which is led by the president, is valid until 2050.
The RUEN among others contains current national energy condition and future projection; vision, mission and national energy objectives and goals; and national energy management strategy and policies.
The RUEN among others is used as a basis of document for the central and regional governments in drafting development programs; a basis of document in drafting the general planning for national electricity (or RUKN), and the electricity procurement business plan (or RUPTL); and as a guideline for provincial government in drafting the General Planning for Provincial Energy (or RUED-P).
The ministry statement said that the RUEN can be adjusted every five years or in case where there is significant development at the national, regional or international level, and in case there significant changes in the National Energy Policy (KEN).
