President Joko Widodo has recently issued Presidential Regulation No 47/2017 on the provision of energy-saving solar powered light bulbs for people in remote and isolated regions, border areas and outlying islands of the country which have yet to receive electricity supply.

The Directorate General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said that according to the regulation, the ministry is responsible in implementing the program, also known as LTSHE.

The ministry will coordinate with local administrations in realizing the LTSHE program, which is being financed by the state budget. The ministry will appoint business entities to provide and install the solar powered light bulbs in the remote regions. The selected companies will have to meet a number of requirements, the statement said.
