The inauguration ceremony was held in Pacitan, East Java, on Wednesday. The new power plants include the Pacitan unit 1 and 2 plant with a capacity of 2x315 MW in East Java, the 660 MW Paiton unit 9 in East Java, the Lontar unit 2 and 3 with capacity of 2x315 MW in Banten, and the Rembang unit 1 and 2 with a capacity of 2x315 MW in Central Java.
State-owned electricity firm PLN said in a statement that the new plants will increase electricity supply in the Java-Madura-Bali network. Although electricity supply in the regions is currently sufficient, with annual demand growth of 7 percent, and peak capacity of 22,381 MW, the regions will need additional supply of between 1,500 and 2,000 MW per year.
The four power plants are part of the power plant projects developed under the so-called first phase 10,000 MW fast-track program (FTP-1), of which a combined 5,070 MW capacity has been in commercial operation, while another 2,115 MW in trial phase or commissioning process, and the remainder 2,119 MW still under construction.
It is expected that all the power plant projects under the FTP-1 can all be completed by next year.
