President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is set to inaugurate three power projects in Palu, Central Sulawesi today (Tuesday) that will improve power supply in the area.

The three power projects include two power plants built by independent power producers (IPP) PT Pusaka Jaya Power -- the Palu coal-fired power plant with a capacity of 2x13.5 MW and a mini-hydro power plant with a capacity of 2 MW --  and one power grid with its transmission facility owned by PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN).

Director general of electricity at the Ministry Energy and Mineral Resources J. Purwono said the construction of the coal-fired power plant needed an investment of around US$30 million. “The mini-hydro power plant costs several billion rupiah,” he added

Purwono expressed the hope that power production from the two power plants would solve the power deficit problem in Palu.

He added that the power transmission facility would ensure sufficient power supply to the two new power plants. (*)
