?The use of coal to fire the power plant Cilacap has been maximized, which can reduce the use of fuels as much as Rp1.1 million kilo liter per year or can save Rp 5.1 trillion per year,? state-owned electricity company PLN?s spokesman Muljo Adji AG.
The US$ 510 million power plant will enter and strengthen the powerful Jawa-Bali power system, he said.
Meanwhile, Unit 2 of Cilacap coal-fired power plant started operation on last Saturday and entered the Java-Bali system and is currently still in the process of raising the production, he added.
The Cilacap coal-fired power plant, built by Chengda Engineering Corporation of China (CECC) in cooperation with local investor, PT Sumber Segara Primadaya (S2P), is located in Karang Kandri, Cilacap Regency, Central Java.
The funding for the Cilacap coal-fired power plant project has partly come from Bank of China. The interest rate offered by Bank of China through PT CECC was 3.8 percent without fee, even though the bank interest rate was then between seven and eight percent.
The construction of the Cilacap coal-fired power plant commenced on December 29, 2003. (godang)
