Press Release: APBI's response to reports on coal supply problem at Suralaya

In response to the article titled "Coal suppliers of coal-fired power plant Suralaya" published by Bisnis Indonesia on April 21, 2004, the Association of Indonesian Coal Mines (APBI) wants to provide additional information in order to prevent misperception.

APBI members that supply coal to Suralaya power plant are PT Adaro Indonesia (1 million tons), PT Berau Coal (1 million ton), PT Kideco Jaya Agung (2 million tons), and PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam or PTBA.

In the past, PTBA faced obstacles due to problems in railway transportation.

PT Adaro, PT Berau, and PT Kideco have thus far always fulfilled their contractual obligations of coal delivery. Moreover, during critical situations, the companies have several times took part in helping solve problems.

APBI hopes that all parties professionally fulfill their contractual obligation according to business ethics.

APBI believes contracts clearly stipulates rules regarding of obligations, rights, and penalties. As a consequence, any breach of contract should be professionally resolved.
