Press Release: Arif Siregar, the new president director of PT KEM

23 February 2004 -- Rio Tinto Group has appointed Arif Siregar the new President Director of PT Kelian Equatorial Mining (KEM). KEM?s open pit gold mine in Kutai Barat Regency, East Kalimantan, Indonesia will cease operation in 2005. KEM is committed to responsibly closing its operation and will implement programs based on agreements and directions established through a Mine Closure Steering Committee (MCSC) ? a stakeholder consultative forum representing interests of KEM the government and community.
Arif Siregar replaced Charlie Lenegan, who will be appointed Managing Director Rio Tinto Australia in Melbourne. Arif Siregar was previously Vice President Director of Rio Tinto Indonesia and has hold senior positions in Palabora Mining Company in South Africa and Kaltim Prima Coal in East Kutai.
Arif Siregar obtained his degree in Metallurgy from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and his Ph.D. from University of Queensland. He is married with two children. (end of release)
