PRESS RELEASE: Charles Lenegan PT KEM's new President Director

Rio Tinto Group has appointed Mr Charles Lenegan as President Director of PT Kelian Equatorial Mining (KEM). KEM, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto, operates a large open pit gold mine in East Kalimantan, Indonesia with an annual output of 400,000 ounces of gold.

Mr Charles Lenegan, replaces Mr John Vale who has retired from Rio Tinto. Mr Lenegan was previously Project Director for the Rio Tinto Gokwe North Coal and Murowa Diamond Projects in Zimbabwe since 1998.

Mr Lenegan, an accountant by profession, joined the Rio Tinto Group in 1981 and worked in various roles during the development of Argyle Diamonds in Australia. In 1987 Mr Lenegan joined PT Kaltim Prima Coal as General Manager Commercial and was involved in the feasibility study, development and production phases of this project.

Mr Lenegan's other previous management positions with the Rio Tinto Group include General Manager Business Improvement at Dampier Salt and General Manager Operations at Tarong Coal, both in Australia.

Mr Lenegan has a degree in Economics from the University of London.
