Sangatta ? KPC today announces force majeure on overdue shipments to some of its customers.

KPC?s President Director, Noke Kiroyan, stated, ?After careful consideration, we regret we have to declare force majeure to some of our customers. However, we remain hopeful for a positive outcome from the mediation effort by the East Kutai Manpower Authority today as required by the new Labour Law.?

Since the strike started on 29 August, four ships have been waiting for shipments to Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The strike has caused KPC a loss of US$500,000 per day, US$300,000 of which normally goes to the Government in royalty and taxes.

KPC management has continuously urged the employees to return to work and allow the lawful processes of mediation to continue. (end of release)
