Press Release: PTNNT completes Rp4.9 billion water reticulation systems for 4 villages

Sumbawa, 10 November 2003 ? PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara has in November completed the construction and commission of an Rp4.9 billion water reticulation system for four villages within Sekongkang and Jereweh sub-districts, Sumbawa.

?Water supply is vital for the local community and we are committed to help the establishment reliable water reticulation system for local communities. We are pleased that this PTNNT-Government of Sumbawa joint project has been successfully completed. About 8,100 people will benefit from this project,? Robert Gallagher, President Director PTNNT, when inspecting the project with Robert Humberson, Senior Manager External Relations and Malik Salim, Assistant Senior Manager External Relations.

Malik Salim, Assistant Senior Manager External Relations said, Government of Sumbawa (Dinas Tarukim) contributed Rp725 million and PTNNT contributed Rp4.175 billion for the project. ?This project covers Maluk, Benete, Sekongkang Atas and Sekongkang Bawah,? said Malik Salim.

Each of the four water reticulation systems consists of 2 or 3 deep wells, pump, tanks and distribution pipes. ?This project started in June 2002 and completed the construction in July 2003. We commissioned the system in November once PLN completed power connection,? said Wagimin Hadisastra, General Supervisor Community Infrastructure Projects PTNNT.

The facilities will be operated and maintained by a water company (BUMDes) of every village. Every family will use and pay the water. ?These facilities have been constructed using quality materials and high standard works. We hope these facilities will be sustainable,? said Wagimin.

PTNNT has an extensive community programs including community capacity building, community infrastructure, agriculture, scholarship and donation. In 2003, PTNNT?s budget for community programs is US$2.7 billion. (end of release)
