PRESS RELEASE: S. Sumatera - Riau natural gas transmission and distribution project

Friday, December 22 2000 - 04:00 AM WIB

PT. Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero), commonly referred to as PGN, is currently running gas transmission line from Grissik in the province of South Sumatera to Duri, province of Riau for the length of 536-km and 28" in diameter. The transmission system is transporting natural gas from the Corridor Block at Grissik under the concession of Gulf Indonesia Resources (Gulf) to supply Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI) at Duri to support the activities of oil enhancement recovery through the technology of steam flood.

The gas transmission system is currently transporting gas of normal flow (free flow) at 310 mmscfd as per original design requirements.

However, due to additional demand by CPI for Cogeneration, which is amounting to 120 mmscfd (total supply to CPI becomes 430 mmscfd), Compressor Stations are required to boost the existing capacity to meet the new demand by CPI. The stations will be located at KP-136 (Sakerman/Jambi) and KP-276 (Pangkalan Kasai/Riau) and each station requires around 8000 Horse Power (running).

Project investment

PGN as a state limited liability company is keen to proceed this project, with the estimated costs of US$ 55 million, to optimize the existing PGN's transmission line. As information that financing of the project will be sourced from commercials and PGN.

Project status

Currently PGN has been progressing with basic engineering works, of which some other activities are still to be proceed, that is detailed engineering, procurement, construction and ultimately commissioning activities prior to commercial run, which is expected at the end of 2002.

Project schedule

The project is expected to last for almost 2 years commencing from the signing of GTA which is on 21 December 2000.

Project components

The major components of the project comprise the following:
