Private companies plan to build 26 power plants next year

A number of local private companies and consortiums grouped in the Communication Forum of Private Electricity Producers (FKPLS) plan to build 26 small and medium-scale power plants next year, with total investment of about US$1 billion.

The secretary general of the forum, Djoko Winarno, said in Jakarta on Thursday that the local companies and consortiums were scheduled to sign power purchase agreements with the state owned electricity company PLN next month.

"The 26 power plants which would be built by the local companies and consortiums will have a combined capacity of about 1,000 megawatt," he told reporters following a meeting with Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro.

Djoko said that the construction of the power plants would take the advantage of low-calorie coal in coal producing provinces such as South Sumatra and South Kalimantan.

Among of the investors include Cognindo which will build 2 x 100 MW power plant in Baturaja, South Sumtra; Barata Bentala Balangan to build to build 2 x 65 MW power plant in South Kalimantan; Indonesia Power-Ridlama Bangun Mandiri to build 2 x 25 MW power plant in East Kalimantan; Maser-Bismika Muria-Bina Energi Investama to build 2 x 25 power plant in Lombok; and Medco-Menamas-Barata to build 2 x 10 MW power plant in Tanjung Pinang.(Godang)
