The production of diesel fuel from the plant V of the Balikpapan refinery unit II is estimated to decline by 12 percent due to the recent fire accident, according to general manager of the state-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina Balikapapan office Syafril Hamzah.

Syafril was quoted as saying by the Kaltim Post daily that the fire accident had caused disruption in the production of hydrogen gas from the plant V facility. The gas is used to produce diesel fuel.

Syafril, however, said that despite the production decline, the supply of fuel in the East Kalimantan area would have no problem because Pertamina was making additional import.

He said that the total fuel production from Balikpapan this year is as follows: 1,450 MB of premium gasoline, 1,330 MB kerosene, and 2,320 MB of diesel fuel.(*)
