The East Kalimantan provincial attorneys' office had issued an order to bar coal mining company PT Berau Coal from using its 42 heavy equipment and cars following reports that they had been imported without proper procedure, Kompas daily reported.

Head of the provincial attorneys' office Yusuf Mulia confirmed that his office had issued the order as the coal company's contractor PT Bukit Makmur Mandiri Utama did not follow proper procedure in importing the cars and heavy equipment from Tawau, Sabah State, Malaysia.

Kaltim Post reported that the provincial prosecutors had been investigating presidents of Berau Coal and Bukit Makmur over the importation of the cars and heavy equipment.

Many people believed that the cars and equipment had been smuggled into the province but he paper quoted Yusuf as saying that thus far his office did not find enough evidence to charge the companies with smuggling. (*)
