Some employees of East Kalimantan coal giant mining firm PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) continued on Sunday its protest against the company causing disruption in the delivery of coal from the Sangatta mining site to the Tanjungbara Port, the local Kaltim Post daily reported.
The paper said that the protesters controlled the company's conveyor used for coal delivery to the port.
The paper said that the disruption in the coal transport had caused five tankers to be held back at the port.
The employees have started their demonstration since last week, demanding a better salary and welfare program.
Some 116 policemen were seen at the demonstration site to ensure that no vital facilities were destroyed by the protesters.
"So far the protest is peaceful without anarchy," said head of the Bontan police unit Lt. Col. Sudjarno.
One of the protester, Neneng, said that a negotiation with the company was expected to start today (Monday).
"We hope the dialogue to go smoothly," said Neneng. (*)
